LWSD Show: The Video, the insanity.

After weeks of work, re-work, crashes and so many video formats it’s bananas… the final (at this point) product is finished. It was quite the process to try and arrange video without heavy processing and the usual tendency to drench everything in effects and actually try and convey the experience of a LWSD show. The other trick was trying to blend all the different formats ranging from high definition at 1080p to the lowest quality point and shoot footage (here’s hoping for more high def footage next time.

Extra thanks to Dave King for being such an insane stage presence…. he certainly makes the edit selection challenging when in every shot he’s giving 999%. More thanks to the camera folk: Brian Kent Gotro, Sarah K Lennon, Chris Dingo, Quentin Rogers and Jason Crockford. Without their work this’d be a pretty boring video unless you like a blank screen.

Not only is King a joy to watch, his beats are unerringly raunchy, gnarly, techy and quirky, and his recent collaboration with Rim Visuals has culminated in a fully immersive concert experience.

After another successful run to Alberta with the LongWalkShortDock show, we’re settling back in to start the new year with plans for installation work, content generation, gallery exhibitions, film festivals and more LWSD shows. The most immediate being a western Canadian tour with LongWalkShortDock through the Paquin Entertainment Group (It’ll be nice to have someone else sort out the details).

Rajas “Mook” video released!

After months of work/procrastination, the video for Rajas’ song “Mook” is finally complete.  The video consists of three different playback streams (face left, face right and backdrop), synced to the song. We then projected each stream simultaneously as we would for a live performance and recorded it.

Since the band members are all in LA, I had to use my own head. We ended up with something like 42 takes. I had to sit ridiculously still for most of the 12 hours we shot, sometimes with upwards of 40lbs of crap on my head. I tried a mannequin head, but that looked silly, though I’m not sure my head looks any less absurd. We wanted to present it as one take, but that proved impossible with all the head gear changes, so we kept the edits really basic to stay true to the original idea.

BTW: We’re looking forward to projecting on the whole band when Rajas comes to Vancouver on June 25th at the Railway Club. (They’ll also be in Van at Funky Winkerbeans on June 18th.)

Calgary: recap.

Aside from technical glitches and a wardrobe malfunction (Sarah had to duct tape Dave’s glasses TO his head as he realized he had forgotten his contacts while the first track started) we had another great show with LongWalkShortDock and Andrew Van Hassel at Broken City in Calgary.

Dave’s dad, Doug, saved the day multiple times over when he brought us food (thoughtfully packed by Dave’s mom, Pat), went back for Andrew Van Hassel’s forgotten synth, and successfully found us a fan after 9pm that stopped one of the computers from overheating and shutting down mid-show. Hooray for Dave’s parents! It was a pleasure to watch them enjoying their first LWSD show.

Looking forward to our next show with Longwalk for his album release party(!!!) on June 17th, 2011 at Celebrities in Vancouver.

Kootenanny Success! Next: Calgary.

Brewman productions’ 9th annual “Kootenannay” went off with only minor hitches. After location shifting, thunderstorms and crazy “power in the woods” issues, the event went OFF! The Kootenanny crew really pulled through despite all the complications thrown at them. Special thanks to the maple syrup powered TryptonMedia for their visual wizardry. Tomorrow we’re in Calgary at Broken City Social Club with LongWalkShortDock. Small club, lots of projectors, mwahaha.
